My Washi Dealer

Last week I was finishing up this perpetual calendar for a client.  I had promised to ship the calendar on Friday, and on Thursday afternoon I was putting on the finishing touches.  I simply had to edge the box with silver washi tape.  When I was about 3 strips of tape away from completion, the roll ran out!

Now I have quite a collection of washi tape as you can see, but I don’t buy the tape in multiples and honestly I’ve never used a full roll of washi before, I guess I thought it would never happen to me.

Well, when my tape ran out I immediately flew into action.  Living in the greater Seattle area I thought I was sure to find what I needed at a Michael’s or the amazing Redmond Ben Franklin.  Calls were made, washi tape was explained to supposed craft experts, and an hour later I came away from the phone empty-handed.

My next idea was to put my Amazon Prime account to good use and order the tape I needed for a Saturday delivery.  I could contact the client and let her know there was a delay and hope that she would understand.  I looked  long and hard through the tapes Amazon had to offer.  I managed to find a set of three Christmas tapes from Decor Tape which included a roll of silver, but they couldn’t be delivered until Monday.  I placed the order as a last resort but I wasn’t ready to give up yet.  There had to be a way to get my hands on a roll of silver washi and get my order in the mail on time!

That’s when I turned to Etsy and searched for a local dealer.  Jackpot!

I found Kate C. from the Washi Shop, based right here in Kirkland.  Now all I had to do was get a hold of her and hope that she would go out of her way, after dark on a Thursday night, to meet a perfect stranger for a washi deal.

Lucky for me, Kate is a woman of adventure!  She picked the local Wendy’s as the hand off location and the deal went down.

Kate and her Washi Shop are now my preferred washi dealer.  The prices are right, the merchandise addicting and plentiful, and any shop owner who would go so far out of her way for a new customer, deserves my allegiance   Thank you Kate, your tape and your kindness totally saved the day!
